Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality for Architects - Explore projects in a new dimension.

Virtual Reality for Architects and Design Professionals.

We're here to help you get the right virtual reality software, and accompanying hardware, to impress your clients with your architectural and design projects.

Virtual Reality, or VR for short, is an immersive 360 degree experience made possible by combining computer graphics with an HMD (Head-Mounted Display).

While VR was previously very expensive, lower cost hardware and more comprehensive software solutions has made VR much more accessible to consumers in recent years.

Here, will will explain the difference between the types of virtual experience, outline some of the virtual reality software options, and take a look at some available VR hardware.

If you've got any questions about VR, please give us a call on 01206 804984.

VR, XR, AR, MR...What are they?

XR - Extended Reality.

XR is the catch-all term that refers to all virtual environments generated by computer graphics and wearables.

AR - Augmented Reality.

This is a computer generated overlay placed on a real world view. A common application is using your mobile phone to see a 3D model of some furniture in the phone camera's view of a room.

MR - Mixed Reality.

This is like AR, but the digital objects can be visually obscured by the real-world objects. This is called 'occlusion' and an example could be a virtual pet hiding behind your real-world sofa.

VR - Virtual Reality.

VR covers all immersive virtual experiences using a headset such as the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, etc. These could be created using only real-world content (360 Video), purely CG content, or a combination of both.
